  Neglected Rustic Xestia castanea

B&F: 2132

ABH: 73.355

Status: Vagrant.

Distribution and Abundance: Rare - no modern records

Primary Habitat: Unspecific.

Flight Period: Not known.

Record: 15 September 1995 Wellingborough (D. Larkin).

Observations: The photograph is of the Wellingborough moth taken in a garden light trap. In view of the lack of suitable habitat in the vicinity of its capture it could possibly have originated from a nearby garden centre. There is also a pre 1960 record from Bedford Purlieus in the form of an anonymous Monks Wood record card. Presumably this dates from the time when heather grew more plentifully on the purlieus.

L.O.N.: Unrecorded but mentioned in some unpublished notes by Wallis from the 1890’s as, “Not very common. At light at Kettering in August.”

First Record: 1890’s, Wallis.
