  Silvery Arches Polia hepatica

B&F: 2149

ABH: 73.260

Status: Unknown.

Records: 1922 Ashton Wold (M. Skirrow) and pre 1961 Castor Hanglands (anonymous).

Observations: The 1922 record is taken from a 1947 report of the Oundle School Natural History Society entitled, “Moths of the Oundle District,” by M. B. Skirrow. The recorder is unnamed. An examination of the schools collection in 1993 revealed a specimen of the Grey Arches (P. nebulosa), a similar species, incorrectly placed under the label for the Silvery Arches. The Castor Hanglands record is taken from a very complete Monks Wood record card marked 1940-60 and 1950+. The code 9999 is used which was reserved for recorders who preferred not to divulge their name. As the Grey Arches is also shown as having been recorded and given the diversity of moth species present on the Hanglands at that time this record is the more reliable of the two.

First Record: 1922, Skirrow.
