  Hedge Rustic Tholera cespitis

B&F: 2177

ABH: 73.252

Status: Resident.

Distribution and Abundance: Rare.

Primary Habitat: Grassland.

Flight Period: Single brooded in August and September.

Localities: Yardley Chase, Harrington, King’s Wood and Helpston.

Observations: Early records show that the moth has never been particularly well recorded in the county. In the 1950’s twelve moths were taken at light in Wellingborough with no moths being seen in two of the years. There is also a 1956 record of moths coming to sugar at Grafton Park Wood. Nowadays the species seems to have become even less common and most records appear to be of singletons at light. The only exception to this that I am aware of is on 12 August 1995 at Whitewater Reservoir when several moths were attracted to m.v. lights running on the site. Generally the north east seems to be the best area in which to see the moth in Northants.

L.O.N.: 1902. Brigstock, Sutton Heath, Cliffe. At light.

First Record: 1886, Wallis.
