and Abundance: Very common.

Period: Single brooded from March into May.
Observations:
Very variable with darker forms predominating the species
can be very common at light. Looking
at old records, on average the flight period seems to end
rather earlier in more recent years. In most localities
the moths are now usually over by mid May, whereas in the
1950's and earlier there are instances of moths being
recorded well into June. The pupae of this species are
amongst the most frequently encountered when pupa digging
at the roots of trees during the winter months.
