Status: Resident.  

Distribution and Abundance: Fairly common.

Primary Habitat: Woodland.

Flight Period: Single brooded in July and August.

Observations: Moths displaying melanism are frequent in many localities. Returns from the Fineshade woodland Rothamsted light trap show an annual average of two moths for seven years in the 1990’s with an overall flight period from 2 July to 7 August.
