Status: Resident.

Distribution and Abundance: Common.

Primary Habitat: Woodland.

Flight Period: Single brooded from October to December.

Observations: The moth can sometimes be very common at light as on 5 November 1988 at Geddington Chase when in excess of one hundred examples were attracted to two m.v. light traps left overnight. One melanic ab. fusca was included in this catch. Over the years I have found the cannibalistic caterpillar most often on lime in the county.

L.O.N.: 1907. Northampton, Faxton to Deene. Larvae common on many different trees.

First Record: 1843, Whitwell.
