  Dark Chestnut Conistra ligula

B&F: 2259

ABH: 73.195

Status: Resident.

Distribution and Abundance: Fairly common.

Primary Habitat: Woodland.

Flight Period: Single brooded from October to January.

Observations: In my experience the moth is more common at sugar and ivy bloom than at light. It was a regular visitor to the ivy bloom on the edge of Glendon Wood in the 1980’s. There are instances of moths being seen in April in the 1930’s and 1940’s but in recent years records do not extend as far into the new year. Dark unicolorous forms of the moth are predominant within the Northamptonshire populations with banded forms being infrequent.

Confusion Species: Chestnut

L.O.N.: 1907. Several localities. Rather common.

First Record: 1863, Smith.
