Status: Resident.

Distribution and Abundance: Common.

Primary Habitat: Woodland.

Flight Period: Single brooded in August and September.

Observations: The first of the sallows on the wing and often plentiful by late August. Light trap records from a Woodnewton garden for the three years to 2009 are as follows: -  2007 - 56, 2008 - 81 and 2009 - 45. The species is quite variable in the extent and darkness of the colouring of the forewing banding.

L.O.N.: 1907. Northampton, Kettering, Wadenhoe. Not uncommon at light.
