B&F: 2271

ABH: 73.179

Status: Resident.

Distribution and Abundance: Fairly common.

Primary Habitat: Parkland.

Flight Period: Single brooded in August and September.

Observations: The mature caterpillar hides during the day in the growth at the base of lime trees and then at dusk rapidly ascends the tree trunks to feed. Some twenty caterpillars were observed climbing the trees in this way on 17 May 1975 along the lime avenues radiating from Boughton Park near to Warkton. Boughton Park was surveyed with light traps from 2001 to 2003. Containing a large number of mature lime trees the park is an ideal habitat for this species. Although seen at light the moth was only taken in very small numbers.

L.O.N.: 1907. Several localities. Comes freely to sugar.

First Record: 1882, Hull & Tomalin.
