Status:  Resident.

Distribution and Abundance:  Common.

Primary Habitat:  Woodland.

Flight Period:  Single brooded in September and October.

Observations:  The species was recorded sparingly at sugar under beech on 14 September 1990 on the edge of Geddington Chase. It occurs most commonly in open woodland amongst maple with the yellow barred forms predominating and unicolorous forms occurring rarely. I have found the colour variation in the moth at Castor Hanglands to be greater than elsewhere in the county.
