  Dingy Shears Apterogenum ypsillon

B&F: 2314

ABH: 73.222

Status: Resident.

Distribution and Abundance: Common.

Primary Habitat: Wetland.

Flight Period: Single brooded in June and July.

Localities: Lings Wood, Pitsford Water, Ashton Wold and Whitewater Reservoir.

Observations: I have always found the moths attendance at light to be rather sparing, but in the past I have found both the larvae and pupae under loose bark on willows along the Slade Brook and the River Ise. Sometimes several larvae have been congregated together. Although mainly a wetland species, returns from the static Pitsford Water light traps for the decade to 2009 show an annual average of five moths, with none seen in two of the years.

Confusion Species: Double Dart

L.O.N.: 1907. Kettering, Sywell. Pupae common under bark of willow.

First Record: 1888, Wallis
