  Crescent Striped Apamea oblonga

B&F: 2325

ABH: 73.161

Status: Unknown.

Records: 1882 Northampton (W. Hull & H. Tomalin), pre 1950 Bedford Purlieus (Gent) and post 1961 Peterborough (S. Pooles).

Observations: The 1882 record is taken from a systematic classification of the lepidoptera which have occurred in the vicinity of Northampton. J. Northampt. nat. Hist. Soc. p.192 by Hull, W. & Tomalin, H. F., 1882-84 and presumably gives rise to the VCH listing. The Peterborough record is from a garden light trap and appears on a Monks Wood record card but does not feature on the subsequent map for the species at p. 188 in Vol. 10 of “The Moths and Butterflies of Great Britain and Ireland,” by Heath, J., Emmet, A. M. and others, (1976-). There is a further pre 1950 record from Bedford Purlieus the source of which is uncertain and although not Peter Gents record I believe it was included in some of his notes.

L.O.N.: Vict. Hist.

First Record: 1882, Hull & Tomalin.
