Status: Resident.

Distribution and Abundance: Common.

Primary Habitat: Grassland.

Flight period: Single brooded in May and June.

Observations: The moth is particularly common on the limestone grassland of Collyweston Quarry with twenty moths attracted to m.v. lights on 4 July 1987. Returns from the two Pitsford Reservoir static light traps show the moth to occur in smaller numbers annually in this wetland locality. Viz:- 1998 - 3, 1999 - 3, 2000 - 6, 2001 - 9 and 2002 - 6. The melanic form ab. combusta is fairly common in the county.

L.O.N.: 1907. Everywhere. Very common.
