  Marbled Minor Oligia strigilis

B&F: 2337

ABH: 73.173

Status: Resident.

Distribution and Abundance: Common.

Primary Habitat: General occurrence.

Flight Period: Single brooded in June and July.

Observations: Although this species has long been separated from its congeners Rufous Minor (O. versicolor) and Tawny Marbled Minor (O. latruncula) it is only possible to correctly identify each species, especially darker forms, by genitalia differences. Unfortunately other references in literature, although sometimes useful, are only pointers to the true identity of the three species involved. From 2014, moths where the identification has not been confirmed by genitalia dissection should be aggregated under Marbled Minor agg. To avoid even more confusion we have decided to leave the mapping and records as they are at the end of 2013. In the first half of the last century, prior to separation, all records were ascribed to Marbled Minor. Currently true Marbled Minor does seem to be the most common of the Oligia species.

Confusion Species: Tawny Marbled Minor, Rufous Minor

L.O.N.: 1907. Everywhere. Abundant.

First Record:  1843, Whitwell.
