  Rufous Minor Oligia versicolor

B&F: 2338

ABH: 73.175

Status: Resident.

Distribution and Abundance: Possibly Fairly common.

Primary Habitat: Grassy places.

Flight Period: Single brooded in June and July.

Observations: Although this species has long been separated from its congeners Marbled Minor (O. strigilis), and Tawny Marbled Minor (O. latruncula) it is only possible to correctly identify each species, especially darker forms, by genitalia differences. Unfortunately other references in literature, although sometimes useful, are only pointers to the true identity of the three species involved. From 2014 moths where the identification has not been confirmed by genitalia dissection should be aggregated under Marbled Minor agg. To avoid even more confusion we have decided to leave the mapping and records as they are at the end of 2013. Currently true Rufous Minor does seem to be the most common of the Oligia species.

Confusion Species: Marbled Minor, Tawny Marbled Minor

First Record: Pre 1960, Pooles.
