  Large Wainscot Rhizedra lutosa

B&F: 2375

ABH: 73.134

Status: Resident.

Distribution and Abundance: Local.

Primary Habitat: Wetland.

Flight Period: Single brooded from August to October.

Localities: Yardley Chase, Pitsford Water, Glendon Lake and Warmington.

Observations: Female moths sometimes turn up in light traps well away from possible breeding sites. I have recorded such moths in my own garden light trap in Kettering on a number of occasions, the nearest breeding site being a mile away. In some years moths are seen much earlier than usual as in 1933 when a moth was recorded at sugar in Weekley Hall Wood on 13 July 1933. Occasionally records also extend into November.

L.O.N.: 1902. Eye.

First Record: 1882, Hull & Tomalin.
