  Brighton Wainscot Oria musculosa

B&F: 2378

ABH: 73.143

Status: Former suspected migrant.

Record: There is one Northamptonshire record. A single moth was taken at light on 9 August 1970 on the edge of Salcey Forest (SP85) by Dr. C. C. Smith.

Observations: This moth is referred to in, “The Moths and Butterflies of Great Britain and Ireland, Vol. 10, page 265.” Although followed up the record was not repeated.  There is a puzzling mention of Northamptonshire as being a county from which the moth had been recorded in the 1973 revised edition of Richard South’s, “The Moths of the British Isles.” I have been unable to trace any record that could have given rise to this entry; the only mention of the species amongst old material being a note that Peter Gent recorded the moth in 1956 in Wiltshire.

First Record: 1970, Smith.
