Status: Resident. 

Distribution and Abundance: Common.

Primary Habitat: General occurrence.

Flight Period: Single brooded from June to August.

Observations: The moth is particularly common annually in the Pitsford Water light traps, much more so than its similar congener The Uncertain (H. alsines) which in my experience is usually the more common of the two species in the county. In the year 2001 comparative figures from the Pitsford traps are as follows:-
The Rustic 458 moths recorded from 13 June to 4 August,
The Uncertain 171 moths recorded from 5 June to 12 September.
