  Bordered Straw Heliothis peltigera

B&F: 2403

ABH: 73.074

Status: Migrant.

Distribution and Abundance: Irregular.

Primary Habitat: General occurrence.

Flight Period: Mainly seen in late summer.

Records: 26 September 1992 Hazelborough Wood (D. Howton),
13 August 2003 Billing Gravel Pit (J. Dunkley), 15 August 2003 Pitsford Water (P. Horsnail) and 1996 Woodnewton (A. Colston).

Observations: Some earlier records resulted from larvae found on imported plants. More moths were seen in Northamptonshire in 1996 than in any other previous year. Apart from one moth taken in Northampton in 2000 there do not appear to be any records subsequent to this year until the 2003 records. Following the paucity of records in 2004 and 2005 in the high migration year of 2006 seventeen examples of this species were recorded in the county greatly increasing the mapped distribution. At this stage it is not known to what extent this is a pattern for the future and the overall effect on the scarcity of the moth. No records have been received for 2007, 2008 or 2009.

First Record: 1969, Thrapston, Gent.
