Status: Migrant.

Distribution and Abundance: Very common.

Primary Habitat: General occurrence.

Flight Period: Records extend from April to November, usually peaking in late summer.

Observations: A very common species in most years but extremely variable in abundance. Fineshade Rothamsted light trap records show the following captures: 1993 - 8, 1994 - 51, 1995 - 8, 1996 - 239, 1997 - 7, 1998 - 22 and 1999 - 8. This variability is underlined by data from the Pitsford Water light traps for the five years from 1999 - 2003 where the catches were as follows:- 1999 - 55, 2000 - 113, 2001 - 52, 2002 - 29 and 2003 - 158.
