  The Spectacle Abrostola tripartita

B&F: 2450

ABH: 73.001

Status: Resident.

Distribution and Abundance: Common.

Primary Habitat: General occurrence.

Flight Period: Double brooded from May to September with overlapping broods.

Observations: The dark form ab. plumbea is seen occasionally within the Northamptonshire populations of the species. The Fineshade Rothamsted trap running in woodland for seven years in the 1990’s shows that moths were taken in five years with a combined total of twenty-two moths and a flight period from 19 May to 11 August. Overall early records suggest that the moth was more a single brooded species than at present.

Confusion Species: Dark Spectacle

L.O.N.: 1907. Several localities. Rather common.

First Record: 1882, Hull & Tomalin.
