  Clifden Nonpareil Catocala fraxini

B&F: 2451

ABH: 72.076

Status: Resident

Distribution and Abundance: Local

Primary Habitat: General

Flight Period: August - October

Observations: The first county record was an undated entry in, “The Lepidoptera of Northamptonshire.” The record probably dates from around 1900 as the recorder J. Brown, who lived at Castle Ashby, was actively recording there and elsewhere in the county around the turn of the twentieth century. 2019 saw a significant influx of the species in the county, and it is interesting to note that the species was recorded in numerous locations across the UK during August and September of that year, sometimes of several individuals on one night. Since that time, it has become quite regular in moth traps in VC32, and even seen in the larval stage within the county.

L.O.N.: Undated. Castle Ashby.

First Record: Pre 1907, Brown.
